Drawing Classes

Got a quick deal on living Social for some drawing classes. Not sure if I enjoy it very much yet but it's always good to do some observational drawings right? Why do I always skew my drawings as well? Also I am in need of heavy weight paper!!!

Painting-All finished

So this marks the end of my first proper oil painting class at art academy. I wasn't sure if I ruined in this the third week though, I was tired that day so didn't do so well. Also poor Anastsia had noro virus! Ouch. I think the shadowing on the torso ws strange and I got really stuck with the legs. 

Here was on my last section, it doesn't look that different to before but I think I improved the shoulder, collar bone area and her face. I also had help from Anastsia on the right foot! If I had more time I would like to finish the background a bit more and stop putting weight on the model. She's like 10-15lbs less than she looks here! (sorry!)

It kind of feel a little worrying now I am out of the class I will stop painting but let's hope not!!! Keep painting!! Anyone can do anything as long as they practice and put the time in. These are things I learnt from +Zen Pencils last week!! Thank you so much +Zen Pencils

Week 02- Final Painting

Ok, I know the legs need work! and to be honest, it looks better on camera than in real life. But not to worry! 2 more classes to come!

Week 01- last painting

I have never thought about how much I'd progress but I am always jealous of the people in the class who seems to be already very good before I started the class. I always thought I wasn't that bad at drawing but in week01 I honestly thought this is really hard, I have no clue but I really wanted to get good! But life isn't like I want to get good then you become good! But looking at this draft drawing, I am quite pleased actually maybe I am getting good?! or was it just I didn't realised how bad I was before!? hahaha

More oil painting-Finished painting 02

Okay, weekend was really really busy so I didn't post anything, I actually started a new painting this monday but I am guessing I need to post the last finished piece! So what do we think? I made the background too eye catching leaving him feel a bit more set back, I fatten out his legs again and his face looks a little funny. Why do I always fatten out legs I don't quite know!

At the moment I am only painting what I see rather than painting what I want to see, so I guess the next stage would be to think about the colour scheme for the whole painting such as maybe use a bit of purple on the cloth as it would compliment the yellows and maybe the yellow didn't need to be so warm!

Oh well overall I am just pleased to have made some progress since the beginning:)

Oil painting number 2 week 1 & 2

This is now week 4 and 5 of my painting class, we started a new painting with a different model. I got a canvas that is twice the size of my last one this time so I will find it easier. 

I think either I am starting to understand what's happening or the size of the canvas really helped, I think it went pretty well. So my approach was only using burnt amber to map out the whole painting and note down the shadow and light area for the second week. I struggled with the legs again and tutor Anastasia Pollard had to help me find the knees. She is quite impressed that I got most things pretty much right this time and said I was miles away from where I was with my last one.

Coming into the second week of this painting here, I was quite confused with getting the palete right as usual but I think in the end I somehow understood how the colours work. The things to remeber are shadows are a bit green and when you lighen up a shadow you can use yellow but too green will look strange. It's just a better option instead of white 

because it can be a bit much sometimes!

Even tho the spot light on the model is white is infact blue? Which is why the shadows should be a bit green. It was kind of strange for me when I understood how to draw the dark areas but confused with the midtones. Anastia then said it should be a bit green, so this puddle I made on the palette was almost like ducks poo. However I tried it on the thigh area anyway but wow it fitted in so well and you cannot even tell it is green at all! These classes are pretty short in a way but I am always suprised how much I have done when I compare the before and after!!

Next lesson I will work on the midtones, hightlights and avoid doing weird dark outlines as my good friend said I don't believe they exist in real life! Try to break reality and use values to differentiate depth.

He also shown me some homework he's been doing on his course, where he's draw a human head figure using just burnt amber with solvent, and then burnt amber with white. So that he understands his equipment. I really should do something like that too:)
  

First "proper" Oil Painting

Started attending an oil painting class for human figures at recently, this is from my third lesson, with the first stage on bottom left, and then right and then top as the final one.

The word final meant thats all the class time I had in the end, with a lot of help from the tutor, it didn't look so bad in the end! Although this is after I compared it to my earlier stages! Some ladies in the class were super good! I felt like mine was like a cartoon hahahaa however they are right about that you should only try and beat yourself because it makes me feel much better realising how much better it is compared to earlier lessons really.

Anyone out there good with colour mixing? I find that pretty tough:(

Making a silver charm

Finally have time to update my blog again, I wanted to write about the silver charm taster class I did with my friend just before Christmas at +London Jewellery School It was so fun and worthwhile, definitely inspired me if I should do jewellery making class some day. 

Me and my friend was so surprised how professional the product was at the end despite the whole class only lasted 2.5 hours! The tutor was very good that she made sure she checked our product before we rushed off. 

So we we were given 20minutes to design the charm first, then we drew it on with paper and marks it with a marking tool. Then we were ready to saw it out of this little silver square plate. After that we smouldered it so it's malleable. And then we are ready to mould it how we want. I milled a pattern on with some pretty brass bits as well as hammering all over it to give it an organic look. Then we filed down the sharp edges and saw cuts. Finally we polished it so it's real shiny! 

The course was great however I wish we had more time on planning and experimenting but for it being £22 and 2.5 hours to achieve such great results is amazing!
